I’ve been querying agents in my alter-ego as a science-fiction writer. I lucked out with J.E.S. Hays and found an agent fairly quickly. It’s a long road full of rejection, which you have to try not to take personally.
I’ve rewritten chapter one completely after two different agents said it didn’t grab them quickly enough. I believe there’s enough tension, but it’s a matter of seeing if any of the agents looking for science fiction will think so as well.
Being a writer means you have to have a thick skin.
