I’ve been on a Tarot kick lately, reading a set of Tarot mystery books from Steve Hockensmith and also a series by Bevan Atkinson.
The first series is a cozy with a twist: the heroine is the daughter of a con-artist who never even told her which of the names they used was the one she was born with. “Alanis” is doing her best to live a normal life after escaping her mother’s schemes at last–when she gets word that Mother has died under mysterious circumstances. As she investigates the murder, she makes friends, finds family members she didn’t know she had, and might just be falling in love. There are only three books in the series, but I have hopes that Steve might someday write another!
The second series is a bit more graphic with its murders, but is just as much fun. The heroine in this one is a bonafide mystic who gets visions when she reads the cards. In the first book, a mysterious man literally runs into her San Francisco home (he’s been shot and he loses control of the car) and ends up becoming part of her collection of lost souls. Together, they set out to solve the murder of his employer (along with the identity of his shooter). There are six books in this series, but I’m only on Book Three so far. I’m enjoying a virtual visit to San Francisco, one of my favorite American cities, and I always like a touch of the paranormal with the Tarot readings.
If you like psychics and/or con artists, read either or both of these series!
