What I’m Reading: Haunted Home Renovation Series

I’ve started a new paranormal mystery series. This is by Juliet Blackwell, the author of the witchcraft series I read recently. She also has a Haunted Home Renovation series about a female construction engineer and her startling (and annoying) ability to suddenly see ghosts.

In this series, Melanie (Mel) Turner is making a name for herself restoring historic San Francisco homes. But when someone is murdered on the premises of their newest project, Mel finds herself visited by his ghost, who wants the murder solved. Mel snoops around and finds a mysterious box full of “money” from Emperor Norton (you can look this fascinating character up in any history of San Francisco) and what seems to be the deed to a gem field somewhere nearby. Unfortunately, solving the murder isn’t going to be easy. Whoever killed Kenneth is still looking for something–maybe the old deed!–and they’re not afraid to use force to get what they want. With one of her workers in the hospital and her own home broken into, Mel’s starting to question the wisdom of her actions.

So far, this is an interesting book. I like all the historic details and architectural tidbits, plus I enjoy anything related to Emperor Norton and San Francisco. We’ll see how I like the whole series once I finish reading.
